All Scripture - Part II

Dec 1, 2019    Pastor Steve Pope    Sermon Meditation and Home Fellowship Resources

Sermon Meditation for Sunday, December 1st
300 Day Challenge, Part II
Romans 12:1, 2

I grew up in a family who rarely watched sports but loved to read. I now realize that my inability to run or play organized sports was actually a great blessing in disguise. If reading had been an officially recognized sport, I would have been the MVP of book nerds.

My first childhood love was a series called “The Three Investigators,” by Robert Arthur, Jr. (fallaciously attributed to Alfred Hitchcock). I devoured two dozen volumes before discovering “The Hobbit,” and “The Lord of the Rings trilogy,” which I read before finishing elementary school. I then read on to “The Space Trilogy,” by C.S.Lewis. I’m convinced that reading creative, well written fantasy and sci-fi enabled me to think openly and creatively about God, His grace, and the universe He created for His glory.

Reading good books has enriched my life and often changed my thinking. But reading God’s word has transformed both my mind and my heart. The mighty power that always remains in the Scriptures lies waiting on your shelf to transform you into the Christ’s image “from glory to glory.”

And to make you “wise unto salvation.” (II Timothy 3:14)

Looking forward to seeing you this Sunday!

Home Fellowship Discussion Guide
Week of December 2nd

Q: Besides the Bible, what is the most impactful book you’ve ever read? Why?

READ FIRST: Romans 12:1-21

Q: Paul commands that we “present our bodies a living sacrifice.” What does this mean? What is the greatest sacrifice this will require of you?

Q: What influences are working to “conform” you to the standards of the world? What are some of the worldly compromises you see infiltrating the church today?

Q: How are we “transformed” by the word? What are the best approaches to filling our minds with Scripture?

Q: Christian maturity depends upon the transformation of our minds. In verses 3-21, make a list of some marks of maturity produced by the transformation of mind and heart produced by the word.
