Stand Firm and Hold On!
Wide Awake and Ready!
Stand Firm and Hold On!
I Thessalonians 2:13-17
The church is without power. Lights are out and nothing is working. Sounds a little prophetic, doesn’t it? Don’t panic though - the church building we use is without power, but the people are alive and praying for the power of God to work among us!
The real power of the church doesn’t depend upon Edison at all. The real power of the church is found in Spirit-led prayer, directed by the truth of Scripture. When God’s people pray, our Father listens. And when we ask anything in His name, He hears us.
So don’t just worry; pray! Pray for the winds to cease. Pray for the rains to come. Pray for the safety and success of our first responders. But, most of all, pray for a mighty revival among God’s people in California!
“And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him.” I John 5:14, 15
Praying for you,
Pastor Steve
Home Fellowship Discussion Guide
Week of November 3rd
Q: What’s the nicest gift you’ve received? Did you feel deserving of the gift?
READ FIRST: II Thessalonians 2:13-17
Q: How much human effort is involved in the transaction described in verses 13, 14?
Q: How does it make you feel to know that God “chose” you to be saved? Is it more appropriate to say, “I chose Him,” or, “He chose me?” Who began the process? What part did you play?
Q: In response to God’s initiative and Paul’s ministry, what are the people to do? (V.15)
Q: We are to be about the business of “every good work and word.” What is the source of these works and words? What are they intended to accomplish? Who will receive the glory?
At the conclusion of your prayer time together, have your group leader pray verses 16, 17 over the group as a blessing and encouragement from God.
